FAQ's about buying second hand canoes and kayaks
HOW CAN I ORDER A SECOND HAND CANOE OR KAYAK?
If you wish to purchase a second hand canoe or kayak please contact the outlet where it is currently being held and you can pay a 25% deposit to reserve it. If you want it transferred to one of our other outlets that is more convenient for collection please ask at time of ordering and we should be able to arrange the transfer within 7 days. We are unable to offer delivery on most second hand canoes and kayaks (please see below)
CAN I HAVE MY SECOND HAND CANOE/KAYAK DELIVERED?
We do not usually offer second hand canoes and kayaks for delivery. There are several reasons for this. We subsidise the delivery of all our new canoes and kayaks to keep delivery charges to a minimum. We make a very small margin on second hand canoes and kayaks and are unable to offer realistic prices for delivery in most cases. We have also found that it is far better for you to check the canoe or kayak is what you expected and that it is suitable for you. We have countless tales of people buying second hand canoes and kayaks unseen from other websites and finding they either do not fit in it, the condition was worse than expected or at worse unsafe. This only gives a negative experience to you the customer and you are unlikely to remain a participant in canoeing and kayaking.
We want to make sure that your second hand kayak is suitable for you and are happy to offer honest, unbiased advice to genuine enquiries in our outlets and of course it gives you the chance to see what other equipment is available. In a very few cases we are able to arrange delivery of white water kayaks under 3m in length by courier on an "as seen" basis.
HOW DO I KNOW IF THE SECOND HAND CANOE /KAYAK IS SUITABLE?
We try and make our description on the website as accurate and honest as possible. Please telephone the outlet where the canoe or kayak is based and one of our staff will be happy to answer your questions. We will need some basic information from you such as where you intend to use it and who intends to use it. We may need to know in some cases the size, (ie weight and height) of the person intending to use it as some kayaks are built to fit certain sized people.
A deposit will hold a canoe or kayak for you for 7 days. If when you see the canoe or kayak at our outlets and decide it is not suitable we will refund your deposit or transfer it to another product of your choice.
IS THERE ANY FORM OF WARRANTY ON SECOND HAND GOODS?
We are unable to offer any form of warranty or guarantee on any second hand goods. Items are sold as seen. We do endeavour to offer honest impartial advice on the condition and suitability of second hand goods and when taking second hand goods in we will inspect them to ensure they are safe to use.
WHAT ELSE WILL I NEED WITH MY SECOND HAND CANOE OR KAYAK?
The second hand canoes and kayak in stock are mostly sold on a boat only basis. Sometimes they may be offered with various pieces of equipment included such as paddle, spray deck, etc. and this will be stated in the description. We offer advice on getting kitted out and can tailor make packages to get you afloat with the right gear, usually at a discount too. Once you have bought a second hand canoe/kayak from us you will registered on our loyalty scheme entitling you to 10% off items such as paddles, spray decks, wetsuits, and much more.
WHERE DO THE SECOND HAND GOODS COME FROM?
Most of our second hand canoes and kayaks come from customers trading them in for newer models. We also sell second hand canoes and kayaks for people and groups who have no further use for them. We do not buy in second hand canoes/kayaks from unknown sources so you can be sure that the rightful owner is known to us.
WILL YOU TAKE MY SECOND HAND CANOE/KAYAK IN PART EXCHANGE FOR A NEW CANOE/KAYAK IN THE FUTURE?
As long as the goods are in a safe and saleable condition we will usually offer a trade in value against new goods.
